A private Florence walk ending on the dome

Your own guide meets you under Dante's statue in Santa Croce, or at selected hotels, and walks you through the old centre to the Duomo, where the tour ends with the climb. It suits a first visit to Florence: three hours, the main squares, and the city's best view at the end.

Private Florence Walk with Dome Climb

About this experience

This is a city walk first and a dome climb second. A private guide (the listing says a professional art historian) meets your group under the white marble Dante in front of Santa Croce, or picks you up at selected hotels. You spend about half an hour each at Santa Croce, the Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria and Piazza del Duomo, then climb the dome. The tour ends in the cathedral square.

Private means the pace is yours. One reviewer's guide stopped so she could buy socks; others say their guide asked what they cared about and shaped the route around it. All 11 reviews are five stars, though most are a few years old, and several name the same guides.

Be clear about the price: $300 per person, not per group. For two that's $600 for three hours. The listing covers the dome entry but not the rest of the Brunelleschi Pass, so the bell tower, baptistery and museum aren't on its list. If you want the complex too, the official pass is 30 EUR on the Opera's price page, and a group tour like the museum tour includes it.

  • Your own guide, no strangers in the group
  • Santa Croce, the Ponte Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria on foot
  • The dome climb as the finale
  • Hotel pickup at selected hotels
  • All 11 reviews are five stars

Tips before you book

  • Ask at booking if your hotel is on the pickup list. If not, Santa Croce is an easy walk from most of the centre.
  • Wear shoes you can climb in. The dome comes after nearly three hours on your feet.
  • Cover shoulders and knees if you want to step inside the cathedral.
  • Bring ID for everyone: the dome checks names against tickets.
  • Buy the 30 EUR pass for the bell tower on a later day if you want both climbs.
